Learn About the Founding of Our School

Ridgewood Montessori School was founded in 1989 by Evelyn Moshier. Her desire at that time was to create a partnership with children where children are respected in a safe nurturing environment.

She was inspired by Dr. Montessori's teachings and how a teacher's primary role was to prepare and maintain an environment where children would love to learn. Today, Kathryn Imbrogno continues Evelyn's passion, love, desire and dedication as Head of School.

Her passion and commitment to children's education has allowed our school to flourish over the years. Kathryn is very proud of the multicultural staff that makes up our faculty.

Our staff is highly qualified, well trained and dedicated to teaching children in a loving, caring, and enriching environment. The diversity of each one of us, and the contributions we make allows children to reach their full potential.

Kathryn works in partnership with a great team. She attributes the school's ongoing success to her partnership with Leah Suzanne Kaplan, Director of Admissions, and Helen Ross, Director of Education. Call us today to learn more about our Montessori school.

Our Growth

We are excited to announce that due to the incredible growth of both our primary and elementary programs, our kindergarteners are now officially permanent, thriving members of our elementary program! In true Montessori fashion of following the child, we have created two levels in our lower elementary program. We now have two kindergarten/first-grade classrooms and one second/third-grade classroom. This has allowed our upper elementary to consist of grades four through eight!

We believe it is important to prepare a child for “what’s next” after they move on from our school. For the majority of students, it is to a traditional school. Therefore, students in the fourth grade and higher take an annual standardized test both to prepare them for taking these types of exams in the future, and to benchmark the education we provide. Their results are phenomenal, scoring way above their grade-levels. We believe this is due to teaching students how to think rather than what to think. The best result was the feedback we received from the students themselves when they finished the exam. Their comments included, “That was fun!” “Can we do more?” and “That went fast!” How often do you hear a child ask for more testing?

Again, one of the many beneficial aspects of the Montessori classroom is the emphasis on following the child. Equally important is making sure that our curriculum exceeds the state standard guidelines.

Ridgewood Montessori School is proud to announce we have been awarded “Best in Paramus, 2023” Pre-school and Elementary School for the 4th consecutive year. This award means the world to us and we thank you for your trust and support. The Administrative Team wants to express our thanks and appreciation to our teachers and staff who word tirelessly each day to care for and educate our students. What wonderful recognition 4 years in a row.
